About The Cosmetology and Barbering Program
Students in the Paul Mitchell Beauty and Cosmetology Program at Campus receive hands-on training in foundational cosmetology skills and techniques. The curriculum is designed to help students build confidence and prepare to pursue licensure and professional opportunities in the industry.
Students apply what they learn by working with real clients in the guest services clinic, gaining practical experience in a salon-like setting. The program provides instruction in hair, skin, and nail care aligned with the requirements of the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.
The Cosmetology and Barbering Program is a 1,200-hour comprehensive program based on the standards set by the State of California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate of completion and may be eligible to apply for licensure as a cosmetologist and/or barber in the State of California.
Please note: Students must qualify, apply for, and pass the cosmetology and barbering licensure exams separately.
Upon successful completion of the Cosmetology and Barbering program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of California laws and regulations governing the cosmetology industry.
- Apply scientific concepts such as anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and bacteriology in practice.
- Follow sanitation and safety procedures across all service areas.
- Perform Paul Mitchell system techniques in haircutting, styling, chemical services, skincare, beard design, and nail services.
- Demonstrate knowledge of California licensing procedures for licensed Cosmetologists and Barbers.
Students also receive training from the Business Fundamentals curriculum developed by Paul Mitchell Advanced Education (PMAE) to support their professional development.
Students will receive training in skills related to:
- Marketing
- Merchandising
- Client retention
These topics are covered to support students' understanding of core business practices used in salon and cosmetology settings.

Licensure
California License Examination Pass Rates
Graduates of this program complete the 1,200 hours of training required to become eligible for the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Licensing Exam. The program is designed to align with California licensure requirements and prepare students to develop the skills and experience needed to pursue licensure as a professional barber and cosmetologist in California.
A written examination is required to become a licensed cosmetologist or barber in the state of California.
The following are the written examination pass rates for students who took the examination between July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

Barbering Written Licensure Exam Pass Rate 93.33%
